We do. To our girls, and to each other. Yes, all our girls can read by themselves as well, but we still read books together, primarily at night before they go to bed and on lazy weekend afternoons.
It’s a wonderful thing. When they were little, we read picture books. The older they got, the longer the books got. By now we have been reading through a lot of books together, more than once in many cases, and it doesn’t look like we are going to stop doing it any time soon.
The pictures show a little glimpse of the kind of books we have been reading. Many more we got from the local library. If you are not in the habit of reading out loud, to your children or your spouse or your siblings or your friends, try it one of these days. The mind and the soul need nourishing food, too, you know. How better to enjoy it than in company?
Good for you! It is rare in our digital age to read out loud books to our children. Yet, it is the best that can happen to them.

It’s much fun, too. I wonder sometimes why reading out loud to one another has fallen out of favor, while audiobooks are thriving…

It is sad if people seek refuge in digital devices. They have their place as tools for communication. But they lack the human touch, which is needed more than ever before.
