Today, we celebrate the 155th birthday of our 2nd (and 3rd) maternal great-grandfather Charles E. Snyder.
Look at this very interesting photo that we have of him! Isn’t it grand? I love these old photos. You can easily see how having your picture taking was something far from casual and common back in the day. My, how things have changed.

Charles Edward Snyder was born on 29 March 1864 in Chippewa, Ohio, the first-born son of his parents and oldest of 15 siblings, one of whom died in infancy. 19 years later and before his youngest sister was even born, Charles married Mary Jane Martin on 26 November, 1885, in Hocking County, Ohio. They had six children together, in 12 years. Mary died shortly after the birth of their last child, though, in 1899 at the age of 35. We are not sure if he married again, but it seems likely, given that he had six children to raise and he was only in his mid-thirties at the time.
Charles lived all his life in Ohio, mostly in Hocking county, which is also where he died on 11 September 1936 at the age of 72. They laid him to rest in Logan, Ohio.
Rest in Peace, Great-Great-Grandpa Snyder.
