Last Monday 68 years ago, our (2nd) great-grandmother Johanna von Hinten passed away in Minden, Germany.
Today we remember my father Jupp, whose family relations were a closed book for us for a long time.
“By 1918 all but one of my close friends were dead.”
It would have been our (great-)grandmother 105th birthday this week.
“I cordially dislike allegory (…). I much prefer history, true or feigned, with its varied applicability to the thought and experience of the reader.”
140 years ago yesterday, our great-grandfather (and 2nd great-grandfather) Franz von Hinten was born.
Great-great-uncle Wade, Mattie Mulford’s brother, died on this day in 1918 at the age of 28 and a day in the Battle of Château-Thierry.
Today we remember my paternal great-grandfather, last seen alive on the West Front in late 1915.
